For a long time, the history of type design and typography was written from a purely male perspective. Research in the field of type design now increasingly focuses on women, who were already active in the type production at the beginning of the 20th century without really achieving visibility.
The exhibition "Same Bold Stories?" aims to critically research the Klingspor Museum's historical type-related collection (1900 - 1950) for these female positions and to supplement the historiography of type design with their biographies and works. Starting from the historical collection, the exhibition bridges the gap to contemporary type design. Individuals who identify as FLINTA* not only confidently and innovatively shape typefaces, but the international type scene. Émilie Aurat, Jin-Hoo Park, Golnar Kat-Rahmani and Nat Pyper are just some of the many names that are brought together and placed in context to one another in the exhibition.
Curatorial team:
Dorothee Ader (Klingspor Museum), Laura Brunner (turbo type), Valerij Ledenev (Klingspor Museum), Leonie Martin (turbo type), Kristina Mukhacheva (Klingspor Museum, +FEM Kollektiv), Tatjana Prenzel (Klingspor Museum), Naomi Rado (+FEM Kollektiv)
